Karils is more useful in many circumstances. I'd say go with Karils. You rarely range a monster who uses melee up close where he can hurt you, if defense matters. Blessed dhide is better as the improved magic defence is irrelevant, the ranged defence difference is marginal, the increased melee defence of d'hide helps against snakelings, and the prayer bonus helps not use as much supplies.
